Quotes I Like
“Humanity's greatest strength - and also the reason for its ultimate downfall - is its ability to normalize even the bizarre.”
“People who let themselves learn new things are the best kind of people.”
“Laughter is the music of the deep cosmos connecting all human beings that says all the things mere words cannot.”
“If you have the will to do something, and you keep at it, and you don't give up, you can do anything. And there's no greater will than the will to love who you want.”

Review
This book is a force, it was so well written and enjoyable and covered important topics! The characters are real, they are lovely and terrible and racist and kind and passionate and forgiving, and just wow. Frank was such a great character to get to read he is SMART, and always questioning the world around him, his parents and friends as well. He is looking to answer the age old question of why are my parents the way that the are, and how can they be so different than me.
This book reminded me of how A.S. King writes unabashedly bout racism and tough subjects, David Yoon does this as well and just as beautifully. He takes a common ugly topic and writes beautifully and intricately about it. He does not shy away from the topic of racism, he wrote about it in so many different ways in this story, in your face, unconscious , biases both known and unknown, We need more books like this. Books like this make us look at ourselves and question how we act in life, the questions we ask and thoughts we have, books like this make us question our family and friends and their beliefs.
I think everyone needs to read books like this. Overall this was a beautiful and sad and quirky and thought provoking and I want to read it again to absorb some more of its genius. These are the books we need to be teaching about and recommending to each other! What a great start to my 2020 readings!
