Quotes I Like
“Words, I think, are such unpredictable creatures.
No gun, no sword, no army or king will ever be more powerful than a sentence. Swords may cut and kill, but words will stab and stay, burying themselves in our bones to become corpses we carry into the future, all the time digging and failing to rip their skeletons from our flesh.”
“And we are quotation marks, inverted and upside down, clinging to one another at the end of this life sentence. Trapped by lives we did not choose.”
“Aaron Warner Anderson, chief commander and regent of Sector 45, son of the supreme commander of The Reestablishment.
He has a soft spot for fashion.”
“Are you out of your goddamn mind? You think we can take on two hundred soldiers? I know I am an extremely attractive man, J, but I am not Bruce Lee.”
“Who’s Bruce Lee?”
“Who’s Bruce Lee?” Kenji asks, horrified. “Oh my God. We can’t even be friends anymore.”
“Why? Was he a friend of yours?”
“You know what,” he says, “just stop. Just—I can’t even talk to you right now.”
“I’m not sure. But there’s something about the darkness, the stillness of this hour, I think, that creates a language of its own. There’s a strange kind of freedom in the dark; a terrifying vulnerability we allow ourselves at exactly the wrong moment, tricked by the darkness into thinking it will keep our secrets. We forget that the blackness is not a blanket; we forget that the sun will soon rise. But in the moment, at least, we feel brave enough to say things we’d never say in the light.
“Water that never moves." I say to him. "Its fine for a little while. You can drink from it and it'll sustain you. But if it sits too long it goes bad. It grows stale. It becomes toxic." I shake my head. "I need waves. I need waterfalls. I want rushing currents.”
“Hey--jazz hands!" Kenji barks. "Get your ass back over here." He makes it a point to look as irritated as possible. "Back to work. And this time, focus. You're not an ape. Don't just throw your shit everywhere.”

Review
Tahereh Mafi is a lyrical genius she writes books that feel like coming home to a warm hug. Every time I re-read her literature; I can’t believe I waited so long to do so. As I re-read the Shatter Me series, I am reminded why I love reading so much, these books are just so beautiful and well done they make me want to read every book out there just to find something else this spectacular. Even though this is no longer the last book in the series I think it is a great conclusion to the first three books. We get to see all our favourite characters together one more time to take on the Reestablishment and kick some ass.
Tahereh Mafi knows how to write character development, she does such a beautiful job of creating characters that are fluid and epic. She leaves no character where they started, she evolves them and changes them, and I think this is one of the main reasons I am able to love her books so much. The people in her books feel real they have emotions and feelings and they show them, and they change are they are overall just beautifully crafted.
I also think the plot in this book was really well done, I felt as though so much more happened then in the second book. There was so much going on right from the beginning and I loved it all. The second half of this book was epic, and face paced, and I flew through it. These books are a testament to exceptional young adult literature this series is so well crafted and well written that I think I could read it 1000 times and never tire of it. I can’t wait to read the final three books in this and see where all our beloved characters end up.
