Author: Robin Wasserman Date Published: September 10th 2013 by Alfred A. Knopf Date Read: Oct 24 2019 - Oct 28 2019 Pages: 452 Rating: 5/5 Quotes I Like“Don't go looking in dark places, because dark things live there.” ReviewThis book made my skin crawl and my heart beat. I haven't been genuinely scared reading a book since I read Monster by Illsa J Bick. This book is gruesome, it is scary and dark and unsettling. It is a wild look into what people can and will do to people they have known their whole lives. Robin Wasserman doesn't hold anything back, there are so many deaths, young old no one is immune, the deaths are gorey and gross and come for expected and unexpected places. I couldn't read this before bed because it was giving me nightmares, that is how disturbing some parts of this book were... It was awesome. This is one of 2 young adult books I have ever read that have made me afraid. I flew through this book I HAD to know what was going to happen to the characters I came to love, and the ones I came to hate. This book follows a group of teenagers as they try to navigate the chaos around them as there once quiet town descends into madness. Looking back it seemed like it all happened so fast but the pacing in this book was extraordinary, neither to slow or to fast everything seemed to happen just as it was supposed to. It kept me turning the pages so I could figure out what was going to happen to these teenagers I was afraid for. I'm still in shock at how amazing this book was, I hope Robin Wasserman can craft something this blood chilling again soon. I would recommend this book to anyone and everyone who likes horror, this is one of my top 10 books of the year.
